Introduction
The NCI IT Department is dedicated to providing access and support for all college information technology resources both on and off campus to all registered users. The Department & members of the team are responsible for ensuring that all systems and related technology are operating in an efficient & secure manner
Student IT Facilities and Services - Getting Started
As part of your studies and learning in NCI, you will be required to use at least some of the IT Services available to you. This guide outlines what you need to get started and how to get the most from these services.
We recommend you do the following to reduce any issues you may encounter when using the NCI IT Services:

Obtain your Login Details as soon as possible

Confirm you can access and log in to all your service accounts as soon as possible

Change your password(s) as soon as possible

Familiarise yourself with the Student Portal: MyNCIStudent*

Recommended Reading from the IT Section* of MyNCIStudent

IT Guides and Factsheets Directory* for information on using the services

FAQs* for Frequently Asked Questions

Monitor the IT News and Announcements List* on a regular basis

Check your Student Webmail regularly for communications from the College

Contact the IT Support Desk if you have any queries or difficulties

How to get your Login Details
To access your NCI IT Services, you will require a username and password known as your Login Details. To obtain a printout of your Login Details you must be a Registered student and sign, or have signed an Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP). AUPs are:

Included in First Year Information Packs

Available from the NCI Website: Student Acceptable Usage Policy (AUP)

Available directly from the IT Support Office
Your Login Details may be obtained from any of the following methods;

Registration Room - There is an IT Desk situated in the dedicated Registration Room at start of Term

IT Support Office: Collect in person on presentation of your Student ID Card, throughout the year

By Post: Signed AUPs may be returned to the IT Department or faxed to 01-4972200
Your login details will then be posted to your correspondence address as recorded on the Main Student Record System
Returning Students
If you are a returning student, your IT Accounts will remain active to facilitate Online Registration via “MyDetails”. If you have not fully registered by commencement of term, all your IT Service accounts will be disabled until such time as you have completed registration/payment of fees. If you have mislaid or forgotten your password from last year, please contact the IT Support Desk.
PLEASE NOTE: Login Details will not be issued over the telephone or by e-mail.
Information on your Usernames and Passwords

Your username and password is outlined on your printed Login Details sheet

Your username is your student number preceded with a small x, e.g. x10212345
-
Your initial password is a randomly generated mixture of letters and numbers
-
Passwords are case sensitive.

You are responsible for your accounts and passwords. Do not share or disclose your passwords with anyone

NCI have worked to reduce the number of passwords for students to remember to access services. All services use your Network Username and Password, with the exception of “MyAthens”. Refer to your Login Details sheet for details

If you have mislaid, or forgotten your password, contact the IT Support Desk

Refer to the IT Guides & Factsheets Directory*, from MyNCIStudent for specific instructions on how to log in to various IT Services
Activation of your Accounts
Upon commencement of term, your IT Service Accounts automatically activate, on condition that you have paid your relevant fees and you are recorded as “Registered” on the Main Student Record System. Please note, it can take up to 24 working hours, following registration, for all your IT accounts and relevant services to update and fully activate.
Duration of access to IT Services

Your IT Service Accounts stay with you for the duration of your studies in NCI

IT Accounts and associated e-mails and files are deleted when you complete your studies

It is your responsibility to ensure you have retrieved any files or documents you want to retain upon completion of your course
