Celebrating Indian Culture at National College of Ireland

National College of Ireland has a vibrant international community of students who wished to study abroad, and who chose NCI for our wide range of business and computing courses, vibrant city centre campus in Ireland’s capital city, Dublin, and friendly, welcoming atmosphere – not to mention the college’s great track record for graduate employment and the wide range of careers services on offer.

The experiences and talents of our international students enrich the intellectual, cultural and social aspects of life at National College of Ireland and, through the International Office, Student Services and the International Friendship Society, a wide range of activities and events is organised for all nationalities to enjoy.

Cricket matches, Irish dancing, walking tours, nights out and lots more fun events take place but amongst our favourites are the holidays and festivals which help us to celebrate the diversity of international cultures on campus.

This week the Indian international students at NCI, together with the International Friendship Society, organised a fantastic event to celebrate the start of Diwali. One of the most significant festivals in Indian culture, Diwali, the festival of lights, sees millions attend firework displays, prayers and celebratory events across the world every autumn.

The event was celebrated with a ceremonial procession, prayers and the lighting of traditional candles, followed by a delicious Indian feast. Many students wore traditional Indian attire, and the day was full of colour, friendship and joy.
