MSc in Web Technologies - full time

Programme Overview

NCI’s new MSc in Web Technologies is practical in nature and will provide you with an understanding of how to create enterprise web applications distributed across the latest platforms to include cloud computing and incorporating the latest trends in web technologies.

Note: The college also offers a part-time version of this programme.

The programme will encourage an entrepreneurial culture of innovative product development. With a unique focus on Web Entrepreneurship, User Experience, and Web Security, students will combine the business know-how with advanced technological expertise. Students will examine real-world case studies to learn what works, what doesn’t, and why. And our unique start-up simulation game will further develop your business awareness and skills.

Who is the Programme for?

The programme will appeal to the IT community and anyone with an interest in applying web technologies to their organisation. This includes: coders, designers, developers, software architects, entrepreneurs, freelancers, marketers, usability engineers, educators, bloggers, business people, SEO people, social media types, IT personnel and college graduates from cognate disciplines at level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications.

Learn How To

  • Create and deploy a commercial web application
  • Use both Enterprise and web application frameworks
  • Understand the advantages and disadvantages of cloud computing
  • Create rich client side interactivity using the latest client side frameworks
  • Develop internet rich applications using the latest technologies, including Silverlight, flex and html5
  • Perform usability testing on your web application to ensure maximum effectiveness including wire framing, eye tracking and web analytics

Entry Requirements

An honours (level 8) primary degree in a cognate area with a 2.2 award or higher. The college operates a Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPEL) scheme meaning applicants who do not meet the normal academic requirements may be considered based on relevant work and other experience. This may be assessed using a portfolio of learning, demonstration of work produced and interview.

Award

The Masters of Science in Web Technologies is awarded by HETAC at level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications. Students who successfully complete this programme may progress to a major award at level 10.

Additional Information

The programme consists of two taught semesters of 16 weeks duration and a final project semester.
