The College has its own business incubator –The International Centre for Learning and Teaching Technologies (ICELT) which encourages and supports new enterprise developments in the Learning and Teaching sector

We undertake to treat as confidential any information provided to us in confidence by individuals or others, subject to our obligations under law, including the Freedom of Information Act. If, for any reason, you wish that information provided to us should not be disclosed because of its sensitive nature, then you must, when supplying the information, make clear this wish, and specify the reasons for the information’s sensitivity. We will consult with you before making a decision on any Freedom of Information request received, involving sensitive information which you may have supplied.
Overview of the Structure and Organisation
Role and Legal Status
The National College of Ireland is a 3rd level learning, teaching and research institution.
The College is a ‘not for profit’ private company, limited by guarantee, and with Revenue approved charitable status. Overall responsibility for the College under its Articles and Memorandum of Association rests with the Governing Body, with executive responsibility resting with the President of the College. The President is supported in this role, by a management structure as set out below.

Governance, Management and Organisation of the National College of Ireland
1 The Governing Body
The Governing Body constitutes the Board of Directors the National College of Ireland, and is responsible for the overall management and direction of the College and it’s compliance with company law. The Governing body establishes and monitors the College’s strategic direction and policy, its financial planning, and compliance with best practice in all College activities. It consists of 13 members drawn from the following nominating bodies
- IBEC
- ICTU
- The Jesuit Order
- The Staff of the College
- The Students Union of the College
The President of the College is ex officio a member of the Governing Body, which elects its own Chair from amongst its own members. The Governing Body may from time to time appoint such sub committees as it deems proper to assist it in such manner as it may decide
1.1 Finance Sub Committee of the Governing Body
The Governing Body has established a Finance sub committee which reports directly to the Governing Body itself, and which oversees the financial planning and reporting compliance of the College as a Ltd company.

The Company secretary is responsible for the retention of all records relating to the Governing Body which include

Rules and procedures
The Company Secretary retains the records of the Governing Body in accordance with Company Law requirements. The annual audited accounts of the College are on public record, and can be obtained from the Companies Office.

2. The President
The President of the College is responsible for planning in conjunction with the Governing Body, and for the implementation of the policy and administrative decisions of the Governing Body. The President exercises overall responsibility for the day to day running of the College, and plays a pro-active role as a member of the Governing Body, as well as chairing the Executive Committee of the College, the Academic Council, and other committees as appropriate.

2.1 Key Committees chaired by the President
The President chairs a number of key academic and administrative committees of the College as follows;

2.1.1 Academic Council
The Academic Council assists the Governors in the Planning, coordination, development and overseeing of the educational work of the College, and is chaired by the President.
The principal functions of the Academic Council are
Internal Rules, guidelines and procedures used by the Academic Council and its subcommittees Records Kept Contact: The Registrar The Executive Committee, which is accountable to the President, is the senior management committee with responsibility for development, implementation of strategy and approval of appropriate policies and procedures, agreement of plans, monitoring of corporate performance and ensuring that all aspects of the corporate function operate with optimal efficiency and effectiveness. Although each member of the Executive Committee has an overall defined area of responsibility in this context, the Committee assumes a shared responsibility for every aspect of the College’s operations. The Executive Committee will help also to determine the corporate response to specific initiatives or situations. Internal Rules, guidelines and procedures used. Records Held Minutes of meetings of the Executive Contact: The Presidents Office The Management Committee is the primary forum for day to day operations of the College. It is also the body at which management information is shared and to which members are encouraged to raise issues for general consideration and to bring forward topics for discussion. The Management Committee monitors departmental performance in achieving overall operational targets as defined by the Executive Committee. The committee will work to ensure interdepartmental effectiveness in managing performance. The Management Committee has responsibility for management of academic and administrative matters for academic planning, development and implementation of academic and administrative policies and procedures, monitoring of academic performance including benchmarking and financial performance, contributing to all executive decisions, including allocation of resources, that impact on academic affairs and, generally, ensuring that the activities of the College function optimally. The Vice President Academic and Administration, reports to the President, and has the authority and responsibility necessary to manage the day to day academic and administrative management of the College. The Vice President Academic and Administration attends at meetings of the Governing Body and is a member of the Executive Board of the College . Academic programmes A full updated list of the Academic Programmes delivered by the School of Business is available is available on the College website www.ncirl.ie, and is published annually in the College prospectus Rules, guidelines and procedures used in the School of Business Academic Regulations Contact: The Head of the School of Business Educational Opportunity Programmes is a unit within the School of Business, located at National College of Ireland, Mayor Street, Dublin 1, but providing programmes in an off-campus capacity at locations around the country and thereby to maximize the learning potential of the non-traditional learner in a safe, supportive environment while at the same time providing her/him with the opportunity to excel (i.e. to be graded, to progress and to further support the education cycle within their community). As currently organised the Educational Opportunity Programmes unit is directly linked into the activities of NCI through its operational placement within the School of Business and the access of participants on its programmes to the College’s mainstream student support, library and administrative structures. Contact: The Institute (IFSI) is located on the campus of the National College of Ireland in the International Financial Services Centre in Dublin. It is therefore in a unique position to provide opportunities for those who wish to develop a wider and more in-depth knowledge of the financial services sector whilst obtaining accredited third level qualifications. The Institute provides a range of innovative educational programmes designed to assist current and future finance professionals in meeting the challenges facing the industry. Function The International Financial Services Institute (IFSI) at the National College of Ireland was established in 2003. Its mission is to provide education, training and skills upgrading for employees in the financial services industry, as well as to provide a centre for excellence supporting research and development for the industry. The IFSI is an important element of the specialist and dedicated education and training infrastructure provided by NCI to support the development of the international financial services industry in Ireland and at the IFSC and to improve the attractiveness of Ireland, nationally and regionally, as a location for companies in the financial services sector. In so doing, it realises opportunities for those with professional interests in the business, finance and other sectors to develop a wider and more in depth knowledge. ICELT is fully integrated into NCI’s strategic mission; ICELT’s primary aim is to assist in the creation of knowledge intensive companies in the teaching and learning and related technology sectors, through the creation of the right environment for enterprise development.
