Purpose of Position:
The NCI Career Development and Employability team is student centred, fast paced and continuously seeking to further develop and improve the way in which we serve our students.
As a team we seek to ensure that the service we offer our students is engaging, effective and innovative and we have won national AHECS Awards for Employability in 2018, 2016, 2014, 2013 and 2012. We also won the NCI Presidents Award for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning in both 2012 and 2016. We have built an excellent record for graduate employment with 98% of our available graduates employed or engaged in further study six months after graduating.
Due to continued strong growth and demand for our services we are seeking a Careers Advisor to join our team. Someone who is motivated to work with us as we continue to develop the department in line with best practice in Ireland and internationally.
This busy role will involve:
• Managing a student caseload and providing engaging, high impact and effective career support, guidance, events and initiatives to support both the employability and recruitability of both students and recent graduates.
• Working innovatively with students and recent graduates in offering professional, high impact careers advice, information and guidance via workshops, short sessions, in-depth guidance interviews, in person, webinars, online, by telephone, email etc.
• Designing and delivering a comprehensive series of workshops both in person to students and utilising blended learning approaches across a number of programmes. These classes may include but are not limited to areas including career planning and progression, self-efficacy, networking, the hidden jobs market, employability, job search strategies, CVs, applications and interviews.
• Providing expert advice, information and support to students in relation to career development, career transition and employability on both a one to one and group basis.
• Proactively ensuring students engage with the careers service– responding flexibly to changing student requirements.
• Identify prospective organisations with recruitment opportunities for NCI students (work placements, internships and graduate roles) and facilitating same.
• Actively engaging with employers, sector bodies and other stakeholders, developing collaborative relationships and raising the profile of NCI students and the institution.
• Acting as an interface between employers and academic programme staff to promote mutually beneficial relationships, including sourcing of potential student project and internship opportunities
• Providing a programme of employer events, skills sessions for students to enhance their employability e.g. careers fairs, networking opportunities, employer presentations skills sessions and mentoring opportunities.
• Compiling and sharing student experiences such as key learnings, and student & employer recommendations, or endorsements, regarding their work experience
• Promoting and evaluating careers-related events, activities and job advertisements.
• Logging all information and activity on an in house CRM system and providing annual reports on caseloads.
• Proactively managing and analysing data in relation to FDRs and creating reports for both internal and external view
• Assisting with programme promotion, including designing written materials, attending events and open days etc.
• Working collaboratively with all relevant departments and Schools in NCI.
• Keeping abreast of research and literature relating to career development, employability, and work-related learning and keeping up-to-date with labour market trends trends, recruitment procedures visa regulations and opportunities.
• Engage with AHECS task groups.
• Take active responsibility for own professional development and be proactive in engaging in relevant training.
We need someone who is passionate about career development, who enjoys hard work and will naturally go the extra mile for students to ensure they have every opportunity to achieve their career goals, someone who is self-motivated and takes pride in doing something well.
• Adaptable and creative with a passion to continuously improve employability services.
• Proven track record of meeting and exceeding targets within agency recruitment or experienced guidance professional with a track record of working successfully in a results focused environment
• Strong reporting skills – Interest in and ability to produce a range of reports e.g. First Destination Reports, KPIs, annual reports and analysis.
• Solution focused with the ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously, operate flexibly and shift focus with changing priorities and demands.
• Genuine interest in and ability to engage in targeted business development.
• Experienced in networking, building, developing and maintaining client / candidate/ student relationships.
• Excellent communication skills including an interest in preparing online resources to reach a broad cohort of students using a variety of channels including social media.
• Experienced in researching, preparing and delivering effective and engaging presentations.
• Excellent IT skills and a strong understanding of social media and experience of using it in recruitment.
Salary: Specialist / Senior Administrator (Salary Band: €36,540 -€52,783)
Annual Leave: 24 days per annum
Contract: 2 Year Fixed Term Contract
Hours: 9am -5pm A willingness to work flexibly to cover events and activities outside of usual working hours is essential.
