Can anybody use NCI's library?

Only registered students and staff of NCI can use the library facilities. It is possible for members of the public to join the library as an external member. External membership costs an annual fee. See external membership for details.





How do I renew my books?

You can renew your books over the phone on 01 449 8590, via email library@ncirl.ie, or online. You can manage your library account by using the My Account tab on the library catalogue. Your user account is a record of your personal information, any items you have currently checked out, any holds you have requested and any fines on your account. In order to use this online facility NCI students and staff can log on via the single sign on facility, using a network user name and password. All other registered N.C.I. library users enter a borrower number and Personal Identification Number (PIN). You will need to come to the library desk to receive your PIN, and have your profile updated. This will allow you to renew your books, make hold requests and monitor any fines.


How do I find books?

Search for books on the OPACs (online Public Access Catalogues) located around the library or access the Library Catalogue from home. You can search for books by their title, author or subject area. Once you access the book information and confirm that it is checked in, locate the book on the shelves using the Dewey Decimal number and system. You can refer to the shelving map to find the exact location. Within relevant Dewey numbers, books are shelved according to the author's last name.



How do I get books that are not in NCI's library?

If a book is not held in the NCI library then users may be able to get it via Inter Library Loan or by obtaining a letter of introduction to another library. Contact the library staff for a letter of introduction.



Does the library have a 'lost and found'?

Yes. Any items (student cards, USB keys, phones etc.) left in the library or handed into the library will be kept at the library desk. Students can reclaim their property at the library desk.


How do I access the library's online resources?

Accessing our online resources is very easy. All of our resources are accessed directly from the college's website. The library's homepage allows you to instantly search Summon, our catalogue and our A-Z of eJournals.

If you have a particular online database you need to use (i.e. Business Source Complete), you can go to our A-Z databases and use them all individually.

In the library menu you can also find direct links to our institutional repository (TRAP), Exams Database, Summon, A-Z eJournals, and your library account. You will need to have your network login and password to access these resources. If you have forgotten or lost these details, they are available from the IT Department.
