How can I change my password?

Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) is a service introduced by the college that enables students who have forgotten their password to reset their password themselves without the need to contact the IT Help Desk. This service is available to all students who have pre-registered with SSPR any time, from any device anywhere.

Students can access SSPR using one of the following options:
- Open a web browser and go to https://password.ncirl.ie and click the Register Button.
- Open a web browser and go to Office365 https://login.microsoftonline.com once you login you’ll be asked to register your details.


How to use your student email account?.

Microsoft Outlook (OWA) is the colleges platform of choice to provide every student with an email account. Your college provided email account is the email account used by the college to communicate with you during your time as a student of NCI.

You can access your student email account online via outlook.office.com/owa.

You will be prompted for your student username and password. Your student username is x followed by your student number @ncirl.ie eg: x1234567@student.ncirl.ie.

Logging into NCI web services.

For logging into any of the web services available to you as a registered student you will need your username and password. Your username is x followed by your student number @ncirl.ie eg: x1234567@student.ncirl.ie.

The college uses a single sign-on service, meaning during one session you will only need to log into one service to have access to all the others.



How can I access IT support?

    Students can contact IT Support Desk for assistance by using one of the following:

How Do I Access SSPR?

Students can access SSPR using one of the following options:

1.       Open a web browser and go to https://password.ncirl.ie and click the Register Button.

2.       Open a web browser  and go to Office365 https://login.microsoftonline.com once you login you’ll be asked to register your details

Your student Identity is your student number prefixed by an “X” followed by @student.ncirl.ie

When prompted to enter Username always use the format shown in the example below:

Username:      X1234567@student.ncirl.ie

Using the printers.

There are 4 printers located in the library for students to use.

NCI operates a secure release print system. To release your print and copy jobs students are required to swipe their student ID card on one of the printers in the library. Print or copy jobs will not be released until you swipe your Student ID card and you have sufficient credit on your account to cover the total cost of the print or copy job.

Students can top-up their print credit balance online. All first year registered students will receive €5 print credit on commencement of their course.

Students who wish to query their balance can log a ticket with IT however, print balance adjustments will not be considered in the following circumstances:

  • Printing a file accidentally
  • Printing a file that contains blank pages
  • Printing a file that contains more pages then you expected
  • Printing a file that is incorrectly formatted.
  • Printing colour instead of black and white

Office365 in NCI

Office 365 can be used on PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones. Downloaded copies of Office remain active as long as the associated NCI account remains active.

Log into https://portal.office.com/myapps

Students will be required to authenticate using their NCI identity.

Your student Identity is your student number prefixed by an “X” followed by @student.ncirl.ie

When prompted to enter Username always use the format shown in the example below:

Username:         X1234567@student.ncirl.ie

Password:           xxxxxxxx

Students have three options to consider when using Office Applications:

·         Downloading Office to your desktop or laptop

·         Using Office 365 online.

·         Installing the Office Apps on your smartphone or tablet.

Please note: Any student who may be running a trial version of office on their computer is advised to uninstall the trial version before you commence the installation of Office.

What is SSPR?

Accessing National College of Ireland’s Virtual Desktop Environment

The first step in this process is to download and install citrix receiver on your device, to assist with this process please follow instructions below:

1. Go to www.citrix.com,  click on downloads and then click on Download Receiver.

The following page will be presented. Click on Download receiver for your device type,  The example below shows the steps for a device running Windows .

 

If you don’t install the Citrix Receiver initially as outlined above you will be presented with an option to download and install the receiver at your first login, see the following screen. Just check the I Agree box and choose Install.

You will be presented with a screen similar to the following, click on Run.

 The installation instructions for both of the above methods is the same. Run the receiver once it is downloaded, you will see a screen similar to the following:

Click on start.

Accept the License Agreement and click Install.

 You will see a screen similar to the following when the receiver is installing. Do not enable Single Sign On for now, if you’re presented with the option.

When the installation is complete you will be presented with a screen similar to the following, Click Finish.

Once you have the receiver installed, you can access the virtual desktop environment as follows:

Using the following URL https://vdi.ncirl.ie launch the authentication page, enter your username & password and click Log On to authenticate, see following example.

 You will be presented with a screen similar to the following, click on the desktop displayed to launch.

You will see a screens similar to the following as you desktop connects.

 

 Once connected you will see a screen similar to the following.

 Please Note: when using the virtual desktop environment you must ensure to save all your work to your home directory which is signified by your student number, if you fail to do so your work will be lost and irretrievable, see following example:

Alternatively you can use your One Drive to save your work. Go to the following URL https://portal.office.com/myapps authenticate using your username and password e.g. x1234567@student.ncirl.ie and password.

You will be presented with a screen similar to the following, click on One Drive.

You can save your files here also. Make sure to save your work in either location, your Home Directory or your One Drive.



Connecting to eduroam- Student Wi-Fi Service.

As a registered student of NCI you can connect your personal devices, laptops, smartphones and tablets to the eduroam wifi service in the college.

When connecting to eduroam students will be prompted to enter "Username" and "Password". When prompted to enter Username always use the format shown in the example below:

 

Username: x1234567@student.ncirl.ie

 

Password: xxxxxxxx

How Do I Get A Copy of SPSS?

Under the licence agreement registered Students of NCI are entitled to a copy of SPSS Software for their personal computer for use during their time studying in NCI.  Registered students can request access to this software by logging ticket on NCI360



What is Single Sign On (SSO)?

Single Sign-On (SSO) is a service being deployed in NCI which permits NCI students to authenticate using their NCI credentials (student number and password) once to a trusted service and to then have their identity securely, and seamlessly provided to a number of NCI web applications removing the requirement for a student to have to re-enter their username and password.  (The development of this service is still a work in progress and will be extended to more web applications during semester)

Who can log in to the NCI SSO service?

All registered students of NCI can use SSO to authenticate to the web applications that have this service enabled. 

What username/password do I use?

To login to Moodle or your Student Email for example you must login using your student number and password.  Your student Identity is your student number prefixed by an “X” followed by @ student.ncirl.ie

When prompted to enter Username always use the format shown in the example below:

Username:         X1234567@student.ncirl.ie

Password:           xxxxxxxx



What is a Student IT Account?

A personalised NCI Student IT Account is available to all registered students of NCI.  The Student IT Account is required fto access It services some of which are listed below: 

  • Logon to Student email
  • Logon to Office365
  • Logon to Moodle
  • Logon to College Computers
  • Logon to MyDetails
  • Logon to Print Credit
  • Connecting your personal device to eduroam -Student WiFi

New Students

If you are a new student commencing your studies in NCI, you will have received your initial Student IT password as part of your registration pack. IT strongly advise that you change this password as soon as possible. 

Returning Students

 If you have completed registration but you have forgotten your password, please contact IT Support email itsupport@ncirl.ie

During the academic year 2016/2017 NCI’s Student portal will be retired. Please visit IT pages on website for regular updates.



Authenticating To eduroam

When authenticating to eduroam you will be prompted to enter your “Username” and “Password” When prompted to enter Username always use the format shown in the example below:

Username:      X1234567@student.ncirl.ie

Password:        xxxxxxxx  (Your password is your student IT Account Password)

In NCI eduroam can be used in all locations where NCI wireless is available



Collaborate Using Office On-Line

Log into https://portal.office.com/myapps

In the Collaborate with Office Online section, click on the icons for Word Online, Excel Online and PowerPoint Online to start using the online versions of these Office applications. 

Other applications are made available, as part of a standard MS Education suite, for students to use. It is recommended that students access Microsoft provided support pages when using these applications. To access Microsoft on-line support Click Here


Using eduroam outside of NCI

IT would recommend that all students connect to eduroam while on NCI campus to ensure all is in order prior to going to another institution. If a student encounters difficulties connecting to the service while on NCI campus, there is a high probability that you will encounter difficulties in other institutions.



What is eduroam

 

 

Eduroam (EDUcation ROAming) is a secure world-wide roaming infrastructure developed for the educational and research community. NCI is affiliated to the eduroam service which is an authenticated access Wifi service that is available in NCI and in educational institutions both in Ireland and internationally who are participating in the service. Being affiliated to eduroam allows NCI students and staff in NCI or when visiting other affiliated institutions to access wireless network using their NCI credentials. (i.e. username and password).
