Our professional development programmes provide continuing professional development opportunities for learning practitioners, working in a range of education and training settings, to develop knowledge and skills in new or specialist areas of practice.

Certificate in Learning and Technology

The Certificate in Learning and Technology is a blended learning programme that has been designed for learning professionals who wish to explore the potential of digital technologies to enhance learning and to augment their professional practice. 

Over the course of this 12-week, part-time blended learning programme you will: 

  • Explore a range of digital technologies to support and augment your practice. 
  • Examine theories, models and principles to guide your selection, use and evaluation of digital technologies and resources. 
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a digital learning resource to enhance learning in your context and share it with fellow practitioners. 
  • Reflect on your professional practice in light of the possibilities afforded by new technologies in the sector, and identify goals and strategies for the ongoing development of your digital practice. 

The programme leads to a Special Purpose Award at Level 6 (10 ECTS credits) on the National Framework of Qualifications. It consists of one module called Learning and Technology 

Certificate in Technology-Enhanced Learning

Digital technologies are transforming how we live and work, and effective and appropriate use of technologies by learning professionals is central to developing learners’ digital capabilities – the knowledge, skills and dispositions required to thrive in a digital society. 

The Certificate in Technology-Enhanced Learning is a blended learning programme that has been designed for learning professionals whom already have some experience of using digital technologies to enhance learning and wish to deepen and extend the range of their digital practices. 

Over the course of this one year programme, you will: 

  • Explore the effective use of digital technologies to enhance teaching, learning and assessment. 
  • Examine theories, models and principles to support structured and systematic investigation, implementation and evaluation of digital technologies within instructional practice. 
  • Conduct an appraisal of the digital capabilities in your practice setting, and imagine future scenarios for facilitating learners’ digital capabilities. 
  • Develop, implement and evaluate an instructional strategy to enable teaching and learning enhanced by technology in your practice. 
  • Investigate the use of digital tools to enhance an aspect of assessment, feedback and learning support practice in your context. 
  • Critically reflect on the development of your digital practice, and communicate to fellow professionals how teaching, learning and assessment may be enhanced by technology. 

The programme leads to a Special Purpose Award at Level 7 (30 ECTS credits) on the National Framework of Qualifications. It comprises three modules: Digital Capabilities and the Learner Experience; Technologies in Teaching and Learning; and Technologies in Assessment, Feedback and Learning Support.
