New Year, new attendance system

NCI is committed to creating a learning environment where each student feels connected, supported and empowered to succeed.

We are delighted to announce the rollout of a new student attendance monitoring system: SEAtS will enhance the student experience and strengthen student support, engagement, and success.

Tracking engagement, flagging where support is needed

SEAtS will allow the Student Supports Team to monitor attendance, making it easier to identify when a student might be experiencing difficulty engaging and require additional support.

This initiative aligns with NCI’s strategic plan and reflects one of the college’s core values: putting students at the heart of everything we do. It would not be possible without the strong partnership between the college and NCI Students’ Union, building on a shared dedication to student wellbeing, participation, and achievement.

"SEAtS is a really positive step for students at NCI. It gives us more transparency around our attendance, helps identify when someone may need a little extra support, and strengthens the sense of connection between students and the college. Anything that makes life easier for students and supports their success is always welcome, and we’re glad to see NCI continue to prioritise student wellbeing,” says Rachel Gosker, Vice President for Welfare & Equality, NCISU.

How does it work?

SEAtS is an app that will live on your smartphone. Because it carries out a simple task, SEAtS uses very little data. There is no charge for downloading the SEAtS app.

You will see posters around the college, explaining the app, and allowing you to click through to the student support hub for further information, video user guides and FAQs.

From Monday 19th  January 2026, all on campus first year undergraduate full-time students and all postgraduate students will record their attendance at scheduled learning events using the SEAtS mobile app.

Why is SEAtS a good thing?

•    Timely support: SEAtS will allow NCI to identify early signs that a student might need academic or wellbeing support.
•    Greater transparency: Students will have a clear and accurate view of their attendance record.
•    Simplified process: The system reduces manual processes, saving time for both students and staff.
•    Stronger community: Regular check-ins will help build an engaged, connected community of students.

If you need support, reach out to the Student Supports Team

At all times, if you require any kind of support, drop into the Student Hub and ask for a member of the Student Supports Team, or contact us via the website - this also applies to SEAtS! If you have any questions or need help using SEAtS, the Student Support team will be ready to assist.

The Team also welcomes your feedback on the system, most especially in the first weeks after launch: your experiences will help the college continue to refine and ask any questions you might have.

“For NCI, the introduction of SEAtS is more than just a new process. It is a step towards ensuring every student has the tools, visibility, and support to thrive and succeed. We are excited to launch SEAtS and look forward to seeing the positive impact it will bring to our college community,” says Karen Mooney, Head of Student Support and Welfare at NCI.
