Purpose of Position

The successful candidate will be affiliated with the Cloud Competency Centre, a research centre dedicated to bridging high-performance computing, open data, and digital technologies in general. The Research Assistant will be tasked with developing a suite of postgraduate materials that address the emergent needs in advanced digital skills. Working closely with European partners, this role contributes to pioneering research and the crafting of an educational framework that empowers professionals to implement effective digital solutions to achieve digital literacy goals.

Key Relationships: 

The Research Assistant in Advanced Digital Skills will be required to work closely with the Head of Cloud Competency Centre, NCI Project Staff and European partners, Vice President Academic Affairs and Research, Dean of the School of Computing, and other staff members in the School of Computing.

Key Responsibilities: 

The Research Associate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and contribute to the project’s objectives on advancing digital skills in the ICT sector.
  • Design and develop innovative undergraduate and postgraduate materials focusing on advancing digital skills.
  • Collaborate with project partners across Europe to ensure the relevance and impact of educational, research, and dissemination materials.
  • Engage in the dissemination of research findings through high-quality academic publications, conference presentations, and other relevant forums.
  • Contribute to the project's reporting and communication activities, ensuring that milestones and deliverables are met as per EU guidelines.
  • Engage proactively in writing research proposals for future funding.
  • Participate in the CCC’s activities including showcases, annual reporting, academic accreditations, and EU reviews.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

The successful candidate must possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • Undergraduate qualification in Computer Science with a digital technology focus, or a closely related field. Some postgraduate studies are a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing digital skills research.
  • Proficient in developing educational content and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a capacity to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, to academic and non-academic audiences.
  • Relevant interpersonal skills and ability to develop productive working relationships with other researchers and senior staff with diverse cultural backgrounds in an international environment.
  • Capacity to balance the pressures of research tasks and competing deadlines within EU-funded projects.
  • A 2-page Original Research Statement is required as part of the application for this position. It should concisely outline the candidate's research interests and experience in design and develop innovative undergraduate and postgraduate materials. 
  • Note that in the case where Large Language Models are used to make important changes in the statement ("polishing"), such as rewriting whole paragraphs, content and/or code generation it needs to be disclosed accurately, including which sections are concerned.

12 months Full-Time Fixed Term Contract (to start on 3rd of November 2025 or immediately thereafter).

Salary: 

Academic I Salary band (€37,271 - €57,027)

34 days per annum

Shortlisting

HR draft up the shortlisting documents and provide the initial screening to determine if a person meets the essential criteria of the competition. A shortlisting panel is generally made up of two senior grade staff members from the relevant department for which the role is being recruited.

Where you have been successfully shortlisted for a post, each interview panel member will be furnished with a copy of the relevant information of those who will be attending interview in order that they can review applications in advance of the interview process.
