Purpose of Position:

The key functions of this position are to teach on our accelerated degree programmes at NCI, to engage in assessment setting and corrections and to contribute to curriculum development for School of Business programmes.

The School of Business currently offers two accelerated part-time degree programmes; the BA(H) in Human Resource Strategy & Practice and the BA(H) in Business Management.  These two Level 8 programmes utilise the full calendar year to deliver a level 8 honours degree in two years part-time.  The programmes are block delivered with a typical block being no more than 4 weeks in duration.  Due to the success of both of these programmes, the School of Business is now seeking to compile a panel of Associate Faculty who can be drawn upon to deliver on these programmes.  In particular, the School is interested in expressions of interest from individuals who have previous experience of module delivery at third level in the following areas:  

  • Management, Theory and Practice
  • Organisational Behaviour
  • Human Resource Management 
  • Technology for Business 
  • Law
  • Statistics
  • Economics

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lecture to students across all accelerated degree programmes.
  • Design and deliver curriculum and education interventions.
  • Provide a professional support to students in their learning activities.
  • Facilitate tutorials associated with lectures and guide Teaching Assistants with the preparation and delivery of those tutorials where appropriate.
  • Participate in committees appropriate to the business of the School.
  • Preparation for teaching and all other work-related activity.
  • Provide such information as may be required by the College related to the activities of the role.
  • Engage in the assessment processes of the College by setting and marking examinations and assignments and attending assessment boards and liaising with external examiners.
  • Set, correct and give written feedback on project work. 
  • Undertake the duties of the role in accordance with the requirements of the College Quality Assurance arrangement.
  • Facilitate skills development workshops where required. 
  • Liaise with library re: reading materials, booklists, etc.
  • Develop new and existing course material, using new learning technology and delivery mechanisms in particular.

Programme Development:

  • Assist in the development of existing programmes and new programmes including programmatic review. This may involve drafting submission documents, liaison with the validating bodies, promoting, implementing and reviewing programmes.

General:

  • Assist in the development of the School of Business.
  • Participate in College meetings as appropriate. 
  • Contribute to academic and disciplinary committees as requested. 
  • Be available to students outside of class contact hours for guidance and support. 
  • Represent the college at functions and promotional events such as exhibitions, school visits, open days, recruitment evenings and other external events. 
  • Act as a personal tutor. 

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • A Level 9 masters qualification in discipline area for which you are applying.
  • Teaching experience at undergraduate level, ideally to mature learners.
  • Industry experience would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • He/she must be a self- starter with the ability to work independently.

Shortlisting

HR draft up the shortlisting documents and provide the initial screening to determine if a person meets the essential criteria of the competition. A shortlisting panel is generally made up of two senior grade staff members from the relevant department for which the role is being recruited.

Sharing of your data

Where you have been successfully shortlisted for a post, each interview panel member will be furnished with a copy of the relevant information of those who will be attending interview in order that they can review applications in advance of the interview process. All such information will be returned to NCI and shredded following the competition process.
