ELI Present at Clondalkin Partnership Conference
On 19th November a team from Early Learning Initiative (ELI) presented at the Clondalkin Partnership Conference “Community Childcare and Education: Stepping Stones to the Future”. The conference marked the launch of the Clondalkin Partnerships “Review of Community Childcare in Clondalkin” report. The key note address was given by Barbara Martin Korpi, former Senior Advisor at the Ministry of Education and Science in Sweden. Barbara spoke about the early years education and care policy in Sweden.
The second part of the conference focused on the various approaches to early years care and education within the community sector in Ireland. The Early Learning Initiative presentation focused on the “Parental Involvement in their Children’s Learning” approach (PICL) which is being implemented in 12 local Community Crèches in the Dublin Docklands area.
In order to remain faithful to the needs of our communities, the ELI places real value on multiple perspectives, as such the presentation team consisted of ELI Staff and associate staff and local practitioners who have been involved in the PICL programme: Catriona Flood (Project Coordinator, ELI), Monica Cassidy (Manager, Larkin Childcare Facility and Tutor ELI), Moira Ward (Assistant Manager, St Andrews Resource Centre Crèche), Caroline Maher (Supervisor, Ringsend Community Childcare Facility) and Mary Cummings (Manager, Little Treasures Community Crèche).
