School of Business and Social Sciences
The School delivers programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level on both a full-time and part-time basis, in the areas of initial teacher education for the Further Education and Training (FET) sector, early childhood education, adult and workforce education and professional development for educators. These include the Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Practice for Teaching in Further Education, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Early Childhood Education and Care, Certificate in Educational Practice for PTECH and a newly developing Masters programme.

Key Responsibilities:
As a lecturer in education the post-holder will bring a range of teaching capabilities in at least two subdisciplines of education such as: strategies of learning and teaching, education practice in placements, curriculum development, professional identity, diversity and inclusion, coaching and mentoring, workplace learning, education for sustainability.
Specifically, the role will require the post holder to:
- Lecture on a variety of modules on the Postgraduate Diploma in Arts in Educational Practice in Teaching for Further Education.
- Lecture on the Certificate in Educational Practice for PTECH.
- Lecture on education and other modules as required by Vice Dean for Social Sciences
- Engage with Programme Committee meetings, programme review and programme development.
- Engage with secondary schools who are taking part in the PTECH programme and support with the academic delivery of content and quality assurance of assignments.
- Act as an Academic Programme Director on college programmes as necessary.
More broadly, as a member of the education team the post holder will be expected to:
- Lecture on certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes on a broad range of education related subjects.
- Design and deliver curriculum and education innovations in relation to programme improvement and academic enhancement.
- Engage in academic research, agreed consultancy and development work as appropriate.
- Engage in the assessment processes of the College by setting and marking examinations and assignments and attending assessment boards and liaising with external examiners.
- Set, correct and give written feedback on project work, research work and dissertation.
- Undertake the duties of the role in accordance with the requirements of the College Quality Assurance policies.
- Develop new and existing course material, using new learning technology and learning delivery contexts.
- Undertake administrative duties, relevant to the role, as determined by Vice Dean
Programme Development:
- When necessary, assist in the drafting of submission documents, liaise with the validating bodies, promote, implement and review programmes.
- Assist in the development of existing programmes and new programmes.

Research
- Carry out research relevant to the field of education including regular publications and presentations in peer reviewed journals and presentations at both national and international conferences.
- Act as a supervisor or mentor for students completing specialist topics and dissertations.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Minimum of a Masters in Education required. A PhD in Education or closely connected discipline is highly desirable. Candidates on a PhD track will be considered.
- Understanding of the Further Education sector and training requirements. Registered as a Further Education teacher is beneficial, but not required.
- Ability to engage with second level/post-primary school systems.
- Knowledge of Irish education sector policies and practice.
- Excellent teaching skills.
- Active research and academic publication track record in the scholarship of educational practice and/or learning and teaching or related fields.
- Experience of teaching in Higher Education desirable.
- Ability to prepare course material and programme documentation.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate
- Adherence to professional standards of teaching
- Excellent communication skills, time management and digital technology skills
- Must be a self- starter with the ability to work independently
- Ability to engage with multiple stakeholder groups, including confidence in engaging with regulatory bodies such as The Teaching Council and QQI.
The post holder will join the newly developed social sciences area within the School of Business and Social Sciences. The Social Sciences department consists primarily of the disciplines of psychology, education and post-2016 apprenticeships. The education team is growing and evolving and the post-holder will have opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of the education discipline within NCI.
Salary:
Academic II - €53,836- €82,374
The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Shortlisting
