Frequently Asked Questions


How many residents share an apartment?

The apartments vary in size between 3 – 8 bedrooms. The kitchen and living areas in apartments also vary in size according to bedroom numbers. 1st year students will likely be assigned to a 6 or 8 bedroom apartment.


Are overnight guests permitted?

We have a procedure in place to allow overnight guests. All requests for overnight guests must be done through the Accommodation Office. Please refer to the overnight guest policy in the terms and conditions of occupancy booklet.




Are there fees for internet connection?

Bitbuzz wi-fi is provided throughout all of the accommodation blocks and the charge for this is included in your utility charge. You will be given the login details when you check in.




How does the online application work?

On 3rd of April a link will be made available from 9am on the accommodation how to apply website page. If you follow that link you will be brought to the application page. Please complete all sections and then submit. If there is availability when you make your application you will be required to pay the pay deposit payment immediately to successfully complete your application. If the accommodation is fully booked by the time you make your application you will be automatically placed on our waiting list.


Utility charge/ Electricity Fair Usage Policy

The utilities charge, which will include an electricity fair usage policy, is being brought forward this coming academic year. The charge for utilities is €560, made payable in two instalments of €280. The utilities charge will include lighting, heating and internet fees. You are entitled to use electricity for heat, light and cooking limited to an average expenditure representing an amount that is considered to be fair and reasonable (based on cost for a normal student’s usage of electricity which has been calculated across two years of historical residential use).


Can I cancel my place once I have been accepted?

Yes, but a cancellation charge of €150.00 will be deducted from the deposit.

Where a student is a CAO first-year applicant and they do not secure their college place, the office must be notified within 48 hours of CAO offers that they would like to cancel their place. In this instance, the full deposit will be refunded. If notice is given after 24 hours, then the applicant will be charged €150 cancellation charge.

Where an international NCI student is unsuccessful in obtaining their VISA they will receive a full refund, providing they notify the accommodation office at least two weeks prior to the start of the accommodation term. If notice to cancel is received later the applicant will incur a €150 administration fee, which will be deducted from their deposit. The applicant will also be liable for the rent until a new applicant takes over the lease. Cancellations must be made in writing and sent by email to campus.residences@ncirl.ie.
