Frequently Asked Questions

Will I get my full deposit refunded when I move out?

Insurance charges of €27.50 per semester or €55 for a full term will be applied to all Residents.  This insurance charge will be deducted from resident's deposits at the end of the term of residency.

At the conclusion of your occupancy your room/the apartment will be inspected by the Accommodation Office, or their nominated representatives.  These parties are the sole arbiter in the matter and the cost of any missing items or of any damage not due to fair wear and tear will be charged against your deposit before it is refunded.  Please refer to the terms and conditions of occupancy booklet for more information.

Do I have to pay a deposit?

A deposit of €300 is required on application.  This is a security deposit and will be refunded on check out

Does the NCI Campus close for Christmas?

No – the campus does not close for the Christmas week; however it will be necessary for residents to inform the Accommodation office by the 4th Dec that they intend to stay on campus over this period.

What do the different building names mean on the application form?

In the online application form, under accommodation preferences you will see an option for your apartment/room type.  The three options listed are Paris, Trieste and Zurich.  These names indicate the 3 accommodation blocks on campus. The Paris building has mostly 4 bed apartments, Zurich has mostly 6 bed apartments and Trieste has mostly 6 and 8 bed apartments.

This option is a preference option only and it is not mandatory that you complete this field.  Also it is important to note that if you do choose a field you are not guaranteed to get that building.  We try our best to give students their preferences but this is not always possible and 1st year students will most likely be allocated to a 6 or 8 bed apartment.

What are the accommodation fees?

Fees are €5,800 for the full academic year. This is payable by three instalments of €2,900, €1,450 and €1,450 on-line, by cheque, credit card, banker’s draft, standing order or postal order payable to National College of Ireland (who are acting as agent for the Landlord), Accommodation Office, National College of Ireland, Mayor Street, International Financial Services Centre, Dublin 1.

Can I stay on campus for one semester only?

Yes, with approval from the Accommodation Office. Applicants staying for the full academic year are given priority. For residents taking up accommodation for one semester only, the occupancy periods are 5th September 2015 – 2nd January 2016 for semester one, and 9th January 2016 – 28th May 2016 for semester two. The semester rate is €2,900. Additional weeks residency will be charged at a weekly rate of €155, to be paid at the start of the term of occupancy.

Residents are liable for the residential charge for the full billing period

Notice to vacate rooms at the end of the first semester must be given to the Accommodation Office in writing, at least 8 weeks prior to the intended moving out date. Failure to give this period of notice will result in the deposit not being refunded to the resident. The residential charges for the following period will also be incurred, unless the vacancy is filled in the meantime.

How does the online application work?

You can now apply online for accommodation for the academic year 2015/2016. If you follow the link on the accommodation page of the website you will be brought to an application page. Please complete all sections and then submit. You will receive an email to say that you have successfully made an application and once your application is processed by the office you will receive another confirmation email with a request to pay your deposit.  Once this is paid you will be accepted as a resident on campus.

Can I cancel my place once I have been accepted?

Yes. However, the deposit is only refundable in full to successful applicants who cancel 8 weeks before the semester commences.
Where a student is a CAO 1st Year applicant and they do not secure their college place, the office must be notified within 24 hours of CAO offers that they would like to cancel their place. In this instance, the full deposit will be refunded. If notice is given after 24 hours, then the applicant will be charged €100 administration fee.
