Vigil in sympathy with the people of Türkiye and Syria

There will be a vigil at 1.15pm on Wednesday 15 February, at NCI’s Iris sculpture on Mayor Square, in remembrance of those lost to the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria and in sympathy with those whose lives have been so drastically affected by loss of friends and family, and of house and home.

We welcome anyone working or living in the area to join us in this show of support, especially members of the Turkish and Syrian communities. The 1.15pm time has been chosen to allow people take a short period of reflection during their lunch break.Once we have gathered, we will hold a minute’s silence.

Students of NCI affected by this terrible disaster are invited to then meet together on campus. A member of staff will be on hand to direct students to available services. The thoughts of all the college executive, academic, support and administrative staff, and your fellow students are with you at this time.

For those who wish to contribute to the emergency response, we encourage you to donate to the Irish Red Cross, who are working directly with the Turkish Crescent and Syrian Arab Crescent teams on the ground, providing both ongoing search and rescue services and arranging food, shelter and medical assistance.
