What is single sign-on (SSO)?

Single sign-on (SSO) is a service being deployed in NCI which permits NCI students to authenticate using their NCI credentials (student number and password) once to a trusted service and to then have their identity securely, and seamlessly provided to a number of NCI web applications removing the requirement for a student to have to re-enter their username and password. (The development of this service is still a work in progress and will be extended to more web applications during semester.)

All registered students of NCI can use SSO to authenticate to the web applications that have this service enabled.

To login to any of these web services you use your student credentials, i.e. your student number prefixed by an 'x' followed by @student.ncirl.ie. When prompted to enter your username always use the format shown in the example below:

Username: x1234567@student.ncirl.ie
Password: xxxxxxxx
