Purpose of Position:

The key functions of this position are to teach marketing/sustainability/strategy on a range of College programmes, to engage in curriculum development for School of Business programmes and to conduct and publish research in the relevant field.

The School of Business currently has in excess of 400 postgraduate students studying on marketing, HR, Finance and Management programmes as well as on the College’s flagship MBA.  Undergraduate numbers now exceed 1600 students with the most recent developments being the PSI accredited BA(H) in Psychology and BA(H) in Marketing Practice.  

The College’s growth strategy is now focussed on continuing to deliver cutting edge programmes which are responsive to the needs of industry and it is therefore seeking to consolidate this growing international reputation through external international benchmarking and accreditations.  The strategy requires the appointment of faculty who are highly motivated and passionate about their subject areas while combining this with a demonstrable and ambitious research agenda.  The College offers generous support to both established and early-stage research active faculty to pursue their research and publication interests and to grow their reputation as well as contributing to the growing reputation of the College.

The School is seeking to build further capacity in the area of Marketing/Sustainability and Strategy and are seeking to make an appointment at Assistant Professor level however should an exceptional candidate come forward the College will consider appointment at the Associate Professor level.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lecture to students across all School of Business programmes including but not limited to certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes within discipline specialism.
  • Design and deliver curriculum and education interventions.
  • Provide a professional support to students in their learning activities.
  • Facilitate tutorials associated with lectures and guide Teaching Assistants with the preparation and delivery of those tutorials where appropriate.
  • Participate in committees appropriate to the business of the School.
  • Preparation for teaching and all other work related activity.
  • Provide such information as may be required by the College related to the activities of the role.
  • Engage in the assessment processes of the College by setting and marking examinations and assignments and attending assessment boards and liaising with external examiners.
  • Set, correct and provide written feedback on project work, research work and dissertation. 
  • Undertake the duties of the role in accordance with the requirements of the College Quality Assurance arrangement.
  • Facilitate skills development workshops. 
  • Liaise with library re: reading materials, booklists, etc.
  • Develop new and existing course material, using new learning technology and delivery mechanisms in particular. 
Programme Development
  • Assist in the development of existing programmes and new programmes including programmatic review. This may involve drafting submission documents, liaison with the validating bodies, promoting, implementing and reviewing programmes.

Research

  • Carry out research relevant to discipline specialism including regular publications in peer reviewed journals of international repute and presentations at national and international conferences. 
  • To actively seek external funding to support the research interests of the School.
  • To supervise dissertation work and theses.

General
  • Assist in the development of the School of Business.
  • Act as programme director for undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes in consultation with the Dean of the School of Business.
  • Be available to students outside of class contact hours for guidance and support. 
  • Represent the college at functions and promotional events such as exhibitions, school visits, open days, recruitment evenings and other external events. 
  • Act as a personal tutor. 
  • Work on short courses, training and consultancy.
  • Contribute to academic and disciplinary committees and meetings as requested. 

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • A PhD qualification.  Applicants who have submitted their PhD and are awaiting their viva may be considered.
  • A publication record in relevant and appropriately ranked journals – ideally ABS ranked or equivalent.
  • Teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Supervision experience to at least masters level (taught programmes).
  • Industry experience would be an advantage.
  • Excellent communication skills.
Contract:

Specific purpose contract estimated duration 12 Months 

Salary: 

Academic II - €53,836 - €80,759

Annual Leave: 

34 Days per annum pro rata

Shortlisting

HR draft up the shortlisting documents and provide the initial screening to determine if a person meets the essential criteria of the competition. A shortlisting panel is generally made up of two senior grade staff members from the relevant department for which the role is being recruited.
