Purpose of Position

This role is central to ensuring high-quality, well-managed placement experiences that align with the needs of the programme learning outcomes, regulatory requirements, and stakeholder expectations. The post-holder will work closely with the Programme Directors, Academic Placement Leads and academic staff who are responsible for the academic and quality assurance elements of the placements. They will also work with students and external placement providers.

Purpose of Position:

The Placement Coordinator will support the coordination and administration of placement across:

  • The Bachelor of Arts in Digital and Business Skills (DABS) programme 
  • The Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Practice (Further Education) 
  • The BA(H) Early Childhood Education and Care 
  • And other programmes as indicated by the Vice Dean of Social Sciences

Key Responsibilities:

Placement Coordination & Administration

  • Coordinate end-to-end placement processes including sourcing, allocation, tracking, and reporting under the direction of the relevant academic lead. 
  • Support student placement matching based on programme requirements, learning needs, and employer opportunities. 
  • Provide students with clear guidance on placement expectations, professional conduct, and workplace readiness.
  • Maintain accurate placement records, databases, and documentation in line with NCI policies and programme requirements. 
  • Act as a first point of contact for student placement queries, including policies, procedures, and concerns. 
  • Support scheduling and logistics for placement-related activities (e.g., placement visits).
  • Ensure placement is administrated in line with statutory and quality assurance guidance.
  • Contribute to programme review and audit requirement under the supervision of the academic lead.


Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management

  • Liaise with placement providers, Further Education provider (CDETB), and industry partners to secure and sustain placement opportunities. 
  • Support the development and maintenance of a register of approved placement providers, ensuring alignment with programme learning outcomes. 
  • Communicate effectively with placement mentors, tutors, and institutional stakeholders. 
  • Assist in building strategic partnerships, particularly aligned with industry collaborators .
  • Support the development of training and learning opportunites for placement settings in collaboration with academic lead.
  • Under direction of academic lead liaise with professional bodies to ensure compliance with professional or regulatory standards.

Key Attributes:

Essential

  • A relevant third-level qualification or equivalent professional experience 
  • Proven administrative or coordination experience, ideally in an education or training environment 
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with experience engaging a range of stakeholders 
  • High level of digital competence (e.g., MS Office, databases, virtual learning platforms) 
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team 

Desirable

  • Experience in placement coordination, internships, or work-based learning programmes 
  • Knowledge of the Irish Further Education and/or Higher Education sectors 
  • Experience liaising with employers or external partners 
  • Understanding of student support needs in diverse learning environments

Salary: Senior Specialist / Supervisor (€41,412 €63,363)

Contract: Permanent 

Hours: 35 per week 

Annual Leave: 24 days per annum

The successful candidate will be subject to Garda vetting and must not hold any convictions under the Sex Offenders Act 2001.

Shortlisting

HR draft up the shortlisting documents and provide the initial screening to determine if a person meets the essential criteria of the competition. A shortlisting panel is generally made up of two senior grade staff members from the relevant department for which the role is being recruited.

Sharing of your data

Where you have been successfully shortlisted for a post, each interview panel member will be furnished with a copy of the relevant information of those who will be attending interview in order that they can review applications in advance of the interview process. All such information will be returned to NCI and shredded following the competition process.
