Afterschool Tuition Support Programme
National College of Ireland believes that carefully structured afterschool tuition support programmes have the potential to make a difference to young peoples' academic success. Each year we organise group tuition support programmes in Maths and English, for young people doing their Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate exams. The programmes are run between the NCI Campus and local community centres and are facilitated by experienced tutors and/or NCI student volunteers.
The Discover University programme aims to enable young people to;
- Develop a set of attitudes, learning dispositions and skills that would support them at both second and third level
- Strive to achieve their goals
- Move on to a third level course of their choice.
This week long summer programme, is designed for young people aged 14-17 years. It involves a mix of academic taster programmes in our core subject areas of Business, Marketing, HR, Computing and Digital Media, along with a range of fun and challenging extra-curricular activities. It also involves visits to exciting and innovative companies in the Docklands area to demonstrate how higher education translates into the working world.
Current NCI students who themselves come from the same communities as the young people, act as team leaders providing support and advice to participants and acting as meaningful role models.
Applications for the Summer 2014 programme will be available soon, numbers are limited so places cannot be guaranteed.
If you would like further information on any of the programmes outlined above, please contact Stretch to Learn Coordinator Brigina O'Riordan on 01 4498 635 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
