Biography

Dr. Darcy is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin where she completed her primary degree and the University of Limerick where she obtained her Masters and Doctorate. Prior to returning to academia Colette worked for a number of years in management consultancy specialising in reward strategies and change management. 

Colette Darcy is an associate research member of the National University of Ireland, Galway IRCHSS funded research project examining Work Life Balance. This national project seeks to examine how employees balance their work and non-work demands, not just work and family, but also other aspects of their lives such as community activities and recreation/hobbies. The research includes 15 organisations, 5 public and 10 private sector. In total 729 employees, 133 line/ middle managers and 15 HR Directors/ Managers participated. The research has resulted in significant insights into both employee and employers perceptions pertaining to work life balance and will result in a number of publications including a detailed practitioner guide to work life balance, a research report and numerous journal and conference papers. The members of the research team include Dr. Alma McCarthy, Principle Investigator, NUIG; Geraldine Grady, Project Manager, NUIG; Dr. Melrona Kirrane, associate researcher, DCU and Professor Jan Cleveland, associated researcher, Penn State University. 

Colette was awarded the Emerald/EFMD Outstanding Doctoral Research Award 2007 in Human Resource Management for her research entitled "Understanding fairness judgements in respect of termination of employment; The antecedents of claiming decisions".
