Herbert is a class of 2023 MSc Entrepreneurship graduate from NCI. Originally from Brazil with a background in Architecture and Urban Planning, Herbert was experienced in interior design and project management before moving to Ireland. Today, he works as a Contract Manager in Dublin, combining technical expertise with business and leadership skills.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background:
I am originally from Brazil and hold a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Urban Planning. After several years working in interior design and project management, I moved to Ireland to pursue my MSc in Entrepreneurship at NCI. Today, I work as a Contract Manager in Dublin, combining my technical background with business and leadership skills.
What made you choose Ireland as a place to study and work?
Ireland offers a strong job market, a multicultural environment, and a welcoming culture. I was drawn to the opportunities in both the construction and technology sectors, and I wanted to live in an English-speaking country that values education and innovation
How did you hear about your role ?
I found my current role through a recruitment agency that specialises in the construction industry
What did the recruitment process involve and how did you prepare for it ?
The process included multiple interviews focusing on my technical knowledge, project management experience, and ability to work with clients. I prepared by researching the company, reviewing key industry standards, and practising interview questions related to contract management.
Can you describe the visa process you underwent?
After completing my MSc, I received the Stamp 1G visa, which allows graduates to work in Ireland. Later, I moved to a full work permit aligned with my role.
What is a typical day like in your current role?
My day involves reviewing project specifications, liaising with clients and suppliers, overseeing installation schedules, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
What do you like most about working in your current role or profession?
I enjoy the mix of technical and people-focused work. Every project is different, and I get to solve problems, improve processes, and deliver results that clients can see and appreciate.
What has been the most challenging part of your graduate journey ?
Adapting to a new country, culture, and professional environment was challenging at first. However, those challenges helped me grow both personally and professionally.
