Counselling Service Update:

The Student Counselling and Wellness Service has returned to campus. While in-person session are back, online and phone appointments are still available. Please email: counselling@ncirl.ie to register with the Service.


Students can also access the Student Counselling and Wellness Moodle page, which has lots of tips, advice, helplines, websites, blogs and apps which will be useful for students.  


NCI offers a number of support services to ensure students get any help they might need with their academic, personal or professional difficulties.

Academic Support Officer working with student Counselling can offer students some time and space to explore any issues that may be of concern.

 

The Student Counselling and Wellness Service's aim is to support students and offer a supportive encouraging environment where students can talk about any struggles or difficulties they may be facing while they are in college.

Deciding to go to college is a big step and this may feel daunting, students face many new challenges, and sometimes college life can be stressful. These challenges may be academic, career, or even personal problems that can interfere with student's ability to take full advantage of the College experience. Counselling can be a helpful and supportive place to start.

Counselling can offer students some time and space to explore any issues that may be of concern such as:

  • Stress 
  • Anxiety
  • Academic difficulties
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Depression 
  • Family issues
  • Grief or bereavement
  • Homesickness/loneliness
  • Sexual/personal identity issues
  • Physical assault/abuse

Appointments

To book an appointment with the Student Counselling and Wellness Service, all you need to do is:

Once your message is received, a counsellor will contact you with an available appointment.

Counselling sessions last for 40- 50 minutes.  Your counsellor will discuss the frequency and number of sessions with you depending on your needs (usually weekly/bi-weekly and anywhere from 1 to 6 sessions).

Text NCI to 50808 

NCI students have access to the 50808 textline by texting NCI to 50808. This is anonymous, free and available 24/7. The service provides a safe space where you're listened to by a trained Crisis Volunteer

SilverCloud 

NCI students have free access to the SilverCloud Digital Mental Wellbeing Platform. The platform offers a number of programmes focusing on stress, anxiety and depression, is available 24/7 and can be accessed across devices. 

Speak Out

Speak Out, is an online and anonymous tool for reporting violence and sexual harassment.
