Byers, Dr Vivienne

Vice Dean of Postgraduate Studies & Research



  • Dr. Vivienne Byers is a Senior Lecturer in Health Policy & Management and Vice Dean of Postgraduate Studies & Research at National College of Ireland. She holds a PhD in Health Management & Policy, a Masters of Arts in Health Services Management, a Masters of Science in Developmental Communication and is a qualified Speech & Language Therapist (BA (Mod). She is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin, Institute of Public Administration and University of Limerick. Vivienne brings significant experience (18+ years) in academia in lecturing, management and research across DIT, IPA, UCD and TCD. She has served as External Examiner for the IPA, WIT, CIT and NUIG. She also has substantial experience working in the health services both in Ireland and internationally, as a health services manager and as a health professional. Her research interests lie in the area of health and sustainability policy, healthcare leadership, person-centred care and professional development. She has won a significant number of student scholarship awards and as a Principal Investigator attracted funding, both European (H2020, COST Action) and national (Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) 2016, Fingal County Council 2017, Health Services Executive 2017). She has published and presented extensively at an international level, winning Outstanding Paper in the 2017 Emerald Literati Network Awards for Excellence. She has an extensive network of research groups, academic memberships and collaborations (incl: University of Gothenburg, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, University of Chicago, Minnesota State University, Ulster University, Trinity College Dublin and University of Malta.
