The Master of Business Administration is
awarded by QQI at level 9 on the National
Framework of Qualifications. This award will
allow transfer to level 9 research degrees and
in some cases progression to doctoral study at
level 10 on the NFQ.
Applicants are required to hold a minimum
of a 2.2 honours degree in either a cognate or
non-cognate area at level 8 on the National
Framework of Qualifications and a minimum
of three years’ work experience, ideally but not
necessarily, in management.
The college operates a Recognition of Prior
Experiential Learning (RPEL) scheme meaning
non-graduates with extensive professional
experience and other prior qualifications may

Dr John Lynch
Dr John Lynch has had a distinguished career. John has held a number of senior position across a number of sectors including chairman of the semi-State body Córas Iompair Éireann (CIE), chairman and director general of Fás, chief executive of the Irish Productivity Centre, chief executive of Bord Gais Éireann and director of business policy with the Confederation of Irish Industry.
In addition to this John is a distinguished academic. He was a visiting Professor of Business Law at the National University of Ireland, Galway for a number of years and has lectured on the MBA programme on business policy at Trinity College Dublin. In addition, he is visiting professor at the University of Southern Maine, Boston College and Memorial University, Newfoundland.
Dr TJ McCabe
Dr T.J. McCabe specialises in Human Resource Management, Employee Relations, Human Resource Development, Applied aspects of People Management and Research Methods. He holds a Ph.D in Employee Relations and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Social Research Methods from the University of Plymouth, Devon and a BA Hons in Business Studies from the University of Stirling.
He is a strong and knowledgeable commentator on Strategic Human Resource Management and Employee Relations. He has a particular interest in health and the public sector and has conducted extensive research examining the unique human resource management issues in the health sector in Ireland, the U.K. and Europe.
Prof. Aidan Daly
Prof Aidan Daly is a world renowned expert in the area of Services Marketing. Aidan has had a long and distinguished career in academia where he spend the majority of his team teaching in NUI Galway. He is credited with many advances and developments within the area of services marketing and is known for his unique approach to teaching and learning. He has received many awards and accolades in recognition of his endeavours and has published his research widely. Prior to returning to academia Aidan held a number of senior level management position within the area of Marketing.
Dr Colette Darcy
Dr Colette Darcy is the Programme Director of the MBA and holds the position of Vice Dean Postgraduate Studies & Research within the School of Business. Dr. Darcy is a former Government of Ireland Scholar and was awarded the European Foundation for Management Development/Emerald Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award for her research examining employee fairness perceptions and claiming behaviour.
Her research interests extend to organisational justice, work–life balance, game theory and its application to conflict and claiming behaviour. She has published her work in a number of academic journals including the European Journal of Industrial Training which awarded her the Outstanding Paper Award Winner at the Literati Network Awards for Excellence 2008.
Dr Philip McGovern
Dr Philip McGovern holds a BBS, MSc (Mangt.), MBA and PhD. Dr McGovern has over twenty-five years’ experience working in both the public and private sectors. His areas of expertise and consultancy are: Leadership and strategic management in organisations; Management of organisational change; Extensive knowledge of the learning needs of SMEs. Philip has published widely and has received a number of awards, in particular, for his text on ‘Capability-building in SMEs through participation in a Learning Network’. He has extensive lecturing experience in DIT, IT Tallaght, UCD and the University of Limerick.
Paul holds a degree in Business Studies and an MBA from DCU. With over 20 years management experience gained in both commercial and HR roles, Paul combines a theoretical context for Human Resource Management with substantial practitioner expertise. His specialism’s include: Strategic HRM, Learning & Development, Organisation Development, Leadership Development, Talent Management & Succession Planning, Psychometric Testing, Reward Strategies, Senior Management Selection & Assessment and HRIS. Currently Paul works as a senior HR Manager for a large multinational organisation.
Dr Paul Hanley
Dr. Paul Hanly holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Limerick. Paul’s main research interests lie in the area of health economics, economic impact analysis using input-output modelling and behavioural economics. He is currently involved in a number of nationally and internationally funded projects working with teams of domestic and international collaborators, and has worked closely with Fáilte Ireland on previous projects. He has published in a wide range of international peer-reviewed journals including Value in Health, Medical Care, the International Journal of Cancer, Tourism Economics and Tourism Management. Paul has also been the recipient of numerous awards for his academic endeavours including the title ‘College Scholar’ for his undergraduate studies in UCC, a ‘Best New Investigator Podium Presentations Award’ at the 14th European conference of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) and, most recently, the National College of Ireland President's award for outstanding contribution to research (2012-2013).
Ciaran Hayden has over 30 years’ experience working across multiple industries in both management and consultancy roles. Gaining strong experience in technology related areas in the 1980's, he progressed into broader management roles. That led him to senor positions with consultancy firms such as Deloitte and technology giant SAP, where he led and grew their Irish consultancy business for six years. Ciaran founded two successful technology/management consultancy firms, operating in the UK and Ireland, which have delivered transformational programmes to an impressive array of client organisations.
Ciaran holds a BSc in Computer Science from Trinity College and an MBA. He lectures in Operations Management on the MBA programme and also in Strategic IT on the Data Analytics masters Programme (both at NCI). In both programmes he brings his rich business experience to bear on delivering a strong appreciation of the practical and applied nature of the courses.
Prof. Jimmy Hill
Jimmy Hill is the Vice President Academic and Research and Acting Dean of the School of Business at the National College of Ireland and Honorary Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Liverpool Management School. He began his career in the retail industry before joining the faculty of the University of Ulster’s Business School. He spent two years as a Visiting Professor at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA before returning to become Director of the Northern Ireland Centre for Entrepreneurship. Jimmy is a recognised world authority on Entrepreneurship and is the author of numerous books and journal articles on the topic.
