About Tre
For Tre Robert, National College of Ireland was much more than a place to study. It was a place that transformed his future.
Arriving at NCI in 2019, Tre was searching for direction and an opportunity to build a better future. Over the next six years, he completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications, received scholarships, was elected Vice President for Academic Affairs of NCI Students' Union and later served as President. Along the way, he represented students at the highest levels of the College, including on Governing Body and Academic Council.
Looking back, Tre believes that every opportunity he received at NCI helped shape the leader and person he has become today.
"NCI didn't just give me an education. It gave me opportunities and support that changed the direction of my life."
As NCI celebrates its 75th anniversary, Tre sees the College as an institution that has spent decades opening doors for people from every background and creating pathways into higher education for students who may never have imagined those opportunities were within reach.
Leadership, Impact and Looking Ahead
One of the achievements Tre is most proud of is strengthening the relationship between NCI and the Students' Union through a formal partnership agreement, one of the first arrangements of its kind between a higher education institution and a students' union in Ireland.
A defining moment of his presidency came during the opening of NCI's new Spencer Dock campus building. Standing on stage alongside An Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Minister James Lawless, alumni, staff and distinguished guests, Tre was invited to speak on behalf of the student body at one of the most significant moments in NCI's history.
For Tre, the occasion represented far more than delivering a speech. It was the culmination of a journey that began with a student arriving at NCI looking for direction and ended with the opportunity to represent thousands of students at a landmark moment for the College.
"From arriving at NCI looking for direction to standing on one of the College's biggest stages representing the student body, it's a moment I'll always be proud of."
When reflecting on his time at NCI, he believes his greatest achievement is not a title, qualification or award. Instead, it is the possibility that his work may have made a difference to someone else's journey.
