Start Your Journey with Confidence

Returning to education is an exciting step, and we know it can also bring plenty of questions. Our Mature Student Orientation has been designed specifically to help you feel prepared, informed, and connected before classes begin.

Whether you're returning to study after many years, changing career, or balancing college with work and family commitments, this orientation will provide the information, practical skills, and support you need to make a confident start.

When is the Orientation?

When: Monday, 31 August and Tuesday, 1 September 2026.  
Time: 1-2pm 
Where: Mayor Square Campus

The orientation takes place over two days, with each session designed to help you settle into college life, become familiar with campus and services, and build your confidence before teaching begins. We encourage students to attend both days to gain the full benefit of the programme.

What You Can Expect

During the orientation, you will:

  • Learn how to navigate college life and understand what to expect in your first few weeks.
  • Meet the Mature Student Officer and the Student Support team.
  • Discover the wide range of academic, personal, financial, and wellbeing supports available to you.
  • Become familiar with Moodle, Microsoft 365, and other essential digital tools.
  • Learn about academic writing, study skills, library services, and assistive technology.
  • Explore strategies for balancing study with work, family, and other commitments.
  • Meet fellow mature students and begin building your support network.
  • Take part in a campus tour to help you feel at home before teaching begins.

Why Attend?

Starting college can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to do it alone. Students who attend orientation often tell us they feel more confident, better prepared, and more connected before starting their course. It's an opportunity to ask questions, meet key staff, discover the supports available to you, and make connections with other mature students before classes begin.

Who Should Attend?

This orientation is open to all new mature students beginning their studies at National College of Ireland. Whether you've studied before or are entering higher education for the first time, you'll find valuable information and support to help you succeed.
