Archana is a class of 2024 MSc Finance Graduate who had experience as a Financial Accountant in Industry before relocating to Ireland. After completing the MSc Finance Archana secured a role as a Fund Accountant with BNY.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background: 

I’m Archana. I completed my MSc in Finance from NCI 2024 batch and currently work as a Fund Accountant at BNY. Along with my masters, I also completed ACCA.  I bring over five years of experience in auditing and accounting field across various industries, including Big 4 Company. 

What made you choose Ireland as a place to study and work? 

I chose Ireland because it offers excellent opportunities for ACCA professionals and has a strong reputation in finance, accounting, and financial services. The cost of pursuing a master's degree in Ireland was more affordable compared to many other countries.I was also fortunate to receive a scholarship from the National College of Ireland, which made studying in Ireland even more attractive.  

What do you enjoy most about your current role? 

Working in the private markets industry gives me the opportunity to continuously learn and develop new skills while gaining exposure to a different area of financial services.I particularly enjoy being able to apply the knowledge and concepts I gained through my MSc in Finance and ACCA studies in a practical work environment. The role allows me to deepen my understanding of investment structures, financial reporting, and fund operations while contributing to a dynamic and evolving sector. It is both challenging and rewarding, and I look forward to growing my expertise in private markets. 

What's your most memorable experience at NCI? 

The workshops, career guidance, networking opportunities, and employability support helped me build confidence and prepare for the Irish job market. As an international student, I particularly appreciated the guidance and support provided by NCI, which helped me settle into a new country and adapt to a different educational system. 

How did you hear about your role? 

I came across the opportunity on LinkedIn.  I regularly used the platform to search for opportunities, connect with professionals in the industry, and stay updated on job openings. 

What did the recruitment and selection process involve and how did you prepare for it? 

The recruitment process at BNY included an initial screening interview followed by two online interviews. I prepared interview by attending some Mock interviews and learned some basic concepts of fund accounts. 

 

Can you describe the visa process you underwent? 

I am currently on Stamp 1 Critical Visa. Company supports for the Visa documentation 

What do you like most about working in your current role or profession? 

I enjoy working in a supportive team with a positive work environment that encourages collaboration and professional growth. The strong work-life balance and support for career progression make it a rewarding place to build my career. 

What are your Top 3 tips for current students and graduates who are looking to enter the job market in Ireland?

1. Start your job search early. Begin exploring opportunities, attending career events, and applying for internships or graduate roles as soon as you start your studies. 

2. Tailor your CV to the Irish job market. Ensure your resume follows Irish standards and highlights relevant skills, qualifications, and achievements. Make sure to customize it for each role you apply for. 

3. Build a strong professional network. Connect with professionals in your industry through LinkedIn, university events, career fairs, and professional bodies.
