Jisha is a class of 2024 MSc Cloud Computing student She graduated with a BTech in Computer Science Engineering and worked with Tata Consultancy before relocating to Ireland to undertake the MSc Cloud Computing and securing work with ESB as an IT Infrastructure & App Ops Graduate.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background:
I'm Jisha Joy, currently working as a Backup Administrator at ESB. Previously, I was working as a System Engineer at TCS back in India after completing my degree in Computer Science and Engineering. I completed my Master's in Cloud Computing from NCI.
What made you choose Ireland as a place to study and work?
Ireland being the technological hub of Europe has a lot of opportunities in the IT sector. Also, I was passionate about exploring more about the cloud technologies for which I found NCI had the perfect course.
How did you hear about your role?
I heard about my role at ESB through LinkedIn and also came to know more about ESB in the GradIreland job fair. I applied through their website and landed on the job.
What did the recruitment process involve and how did you prepare for it?
The recruitment process involved 4 steps mainly- Applying for the job online, attending the online assesment, on getting shortlisted attending the online interview and finally a technical and HR interview. I prepared for the interviews by revising the cloud concepts and applying the behavioral skills for situation oriented questions.
Can you describe the visa process you underwent?
After graduating I applied for my Stamp 1G and thereafter just before joining in ESB, they applied for my Stamp 1 work permit.
What do you enjoy most about your current role?
The thing I like the most about my current role is the friendly work environment and team. ESB provides a perfect work-life balance with learning opportunities which provided a positive impact on my career growth and development
What has been the most challenging part of your graduate journey ?
The most challenging part was managing the studies along with assignments and part-time. Additionally, staying competitive in the job market was also challenging initially.
Top 3 tips for students and graduates entering the Irish job market ?
1. Networking: Networking has a significant relevance in today's job market. It helps to understand more about the organisation, its goals and what skills to improve.
2. CV customisation: This is very important as the CV should reflect the specific skills and requirements matching the job role
3. Upskill: Learning new technologies/ upskilling is very relevant in this current job market as it adds more value when you apply for a job.
