Dr Corina Sheerin is a Lecturer in Finance and Programme Director of the MSc in Finance at the National College of Ireland (NCI). She is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), combining academic excellence with professional expertise.
Her teaching specialises in quantitative finance, econometrics, and contemporary issues in finance. Dr Sheerin’s research is distinctly multidisciplinary and underpinned by a critical feminist perspective, positioning her research at the intersection of gender, work, and organisational studies.
She has published extensively in leading ABS-ranked journals, including Public Management Review, Critical Perspectives in Accounting, and Human Resource Development International. Her research has received international recognition, including the Monica Lee Award for Outstanding Research (2021) from the Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD), alongside the Emerald Best Paper Award and multiple Highly Commended distinctions. She has also secured competitive research funding from the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) (2023) for a landmark study examining the lived experiences of women of colour in rural Ireland, contributing to policy and public discourse on equality, diversity, and inclusion. Her current research advances critical debates on gender and space, gender performativity, and the dynamics of gendered organisations.
Corina has been a member of the NCI faculty since 2005 and currently serves as Lecturer in Finance and Programme Director of the MSc in Finance. During her career at NCI, she has held several senior academic leadership positions, including Acting Vice Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Research, Subject Head of Accounting, Finance and Economics, and Acting Subject Head of Management, Marketing and Law.
In these roles, she has led programme development, quality assurance, academic staff mentoring and postgraduate research management, contributing to the successful validation, review and enhancement of postgraduate and undergraduate programmes across the School of Business. She also played a key role in developing the MSc in Finance and Higher Diploma in Business in Finance and has represented NCI internationally through academic collaborations with Angers University, France.
Corina has a longstanding record of service to the College through her membership of Academic Council and a wide range of institutional committees and working groups. She has been particularly active in advancing equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives through her involvement in NCI's Athena Swan and EDI activities. Beyond NCI, she contributes extensively to the higher education and professional communities through external examining roles at Queen's University Belfast, the University of Limerick and the Institute of Bankers, and through leadership and governance roles with organisations including the Irish Accounting and Finance Association (IAFA), the Irish Society of Women in Economics (ISWE), BlockW and the British Academy of Management's Gender in Management Special Interest Group.
