Position:                     Lecturer in Strategy/ Entrepreneurship

Reporting to:              Dean of the School of Business

Purpose of Position: 

The key functions of this position are to teach strategy on a range of College undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, to engage in curriculum development for School of Business programmes and to conduct and publish research in a relevant area of strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lecture to students across all School of Business programmes including but not limited to certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes on a broad range of strategy modules.
  • Design and deliver curriculum and education interventions.
  • Provide a professional support to students in their learning activities.
  • Facilitate tutorials associated with lectures and guide Teaching Assistants with the preparation and delivery of those tutorials where appropriate.
  • Participate in committees appropriate to the business of the school.
  • Engage in research consultancy and development work as appropriate.
  • Preparation for teaching and all other work related activity.
  • Provide such information as may be required by the College related to the activities of the role.
  • Engage in the assessment processes of the College by setting and marking examinations and assignments and attending assessment boards and liaising with external examiners.
  • Set, correct and give written feedback on project work, research work and dissertation.
  • Undertake the duties of the role in accordance with the requirements of the College Quality Assurance arrangement.
  • Facilitate skills development workshops.
  • Liaise with library re: reading materials, booklists, etc.    
  • Develop new and existing course material, using new learning technology and delivery mechanisms in particular.
  • Assist in the drafting of submission documents, liaise with the validating bodies, promote, implement and review programmes.

Programme Development

  • Assist in the development of existing programmes and new programmes. This may involve drafting submission documents, liaison with the validating bodies, promoting, implementing and reviewing programmes.


  • Carry out research in a relevant area of strategy including regular publications in peer reviewed journals of international repute and presentations at national and international conferences.
  • To actively seek external funding to support the research interests of the School.
  • To supervise dissertation work and theses


  • Assist in the development of the School of Business.
  • Act as programme director for undergraduate or postgraduate programmes in consultation with the Dean of the School of Business.
  • Participate in College meetings as appropriate.
  • Contribute to academic and disciplinary committees as requested.
  • Be available to students outside of class contact hours for guidance and support.
  • Represent the college at functions and promotional events such as exhibitions, school visits, open days, recruitment evenings and other external events.
  • Act as a personal tutor.
  • Work on short courses, training and consultancy as agreed with the Dean of School.                                                                                    

Qualifications & Experience Required: 

  •   A PhD qualification in Strategy or Entrepreneurship or related discipline area.
  •   A publication record in relevant and appropriately ranked journals.
  •   Teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  •   Supervision experience to at least masters level (taught programmes).
  •    Industry experience would be an advantage.
  •    Excellent communication skills.
  •    He/she must be a self- starter with the ability to work independently.

Contract:             Permanent

Salary:                 Academic I €36,180 - €54,270

                             Academic II €52,260 - €78,390

The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Annual Leave:   34 days per annum

Hours:                 Full time 35 hours per week
