Purpose of Position

The key functions of this position are to supervise, mentor and assess student educators undertaking (undergraduate) placement in a variety of early childhood settings. Applications for Placement Supervisor on the Early Childhood Education and Care programme will have extensive experience in the early childhood sector.

Director, Centre for Education and Lifelong Learning

Key Responsibilities:

  • Observe, guide, mentor and assess students’ professional practice
  • Provide professional support to students on their placement
  • Liaise with the placement setting environment manager/mentor for introduction and planning visits 
  • Ensure that regular and timely supervision and mentoring of students occur  
  • Attend and engage in assessment and team marking meetings 
  • Engage in the assessment processes of the programme including constructive oral and written feedback 
  • Undertake the duties of the role in accordance with the requirements of the College Quality Assurance arrangement.
  • Prepare a schedule of supervision visits 

General:

  • Participate in National College of Ireland meetings as appropriate.
  • Meet assigned deadlines
  • Submit timesheets for work undertaken
  • Be willing to travel to the location of the assigned student placement setting.
  • Be available to students at notified times for guidance and support.

Key Requirements: 

  • Extensive experience in the early childhood education and care sector 
  • A Level 9 qualification or higher in the field of education/ECEC 
  • The means to travel to a placement setting in a given geographical area
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good time management and organisation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work alone and as part of a team, proficient organisational skills and the capacity to exercise discernment in the assessment of teaching and learning. 
  • Well-developed skills in relation to supervising, mentoring and assessing student educator’s professional practice
Salary: 

Placement Supervisors will be paid a fixed rate per student and meeting rates for Programme Team meetings. In addition, travel and subsistence allowances are paid in line with NCI rates. An orientation will be provided to prepare successful candidates for their role as a Placement Supervisor.

Shortlisting

HR draft up the shortlisting documents and provide the initial screening to determine if a person meets the essential criteria of the competition. A shortlisting panel is generally made up of two senior grade staff members from the relevant department for which the role is being recruited.

Sharing of your data

Where you have been successfully shortlisted for a post, each interview panel member will be furnished with a copy of the relevant information of those who will be attending interview in order that they can review applications in advance of the interview process. All such information will be returned to NCI and shredded following the competition process. Some of the interview panel will be external interviewers, who are not employees of NCI but are engaged for the purpose and are strictly subject to the rules and policies of the College.

Access

Erasure
