Autism Acceptance Festival

DCU, NCI and ATU Sligo are, respectively, the first, second and third HEIs in Ireland to receive AsIAm designation as Autism Friendly HEIs. This year, CCT, DkIT and NCAD are in the processing of applying for this designation.

In 2024, we six higher education institutes are proud to work together to host the first Autism Acceptance Festival, a series of public-facing events to centre autistic people and promote autism acceptance. All events will be online and free to attend.

Learn more about the speakers in this event and find more events in this series by visiting our Festival Hub.

#DivergentMinds Event

A digital exhibition of visual art, poetry, multimedia, film and other creative work will take place across the Festival on the social media channels of all participating HEIs and continue until all have been displayed. These will appear at 11am each day, to encourage people to share their coffee break with some neurodivergent creativity.

This year’s exhibition will be curated by Sam Mooney (they/she), a queer neurodivergent writer and poet based in Dublin. They recently finished studying an MA in Creative Writing and is currently the VP for Diversity and Inclusion in the student union. Her writing explores what it means to be neurodivergent and the effects it has on one's mental health. They are a spoken word poet who has competed and performed in a wide range of venues. They also have experience working with students from minority backgrounds, and event organisation, having run successful campaign weeks such as Disability Awareness Week and Multicultural Week in DCU's student union.
