Prakash is a Class of 2023 MSc Cloud Computing graduate from NCI. With a background in Computer Science Engineering, Prakash works as a Senior Engineer in Wexford, combining quality assurance with cloud-related responsibilities to strengthen technical expertise and support career growth.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background:
I’m originally from India and hold a degree in Computer Science Engineering. After
completing my Master’s in Cloud Computing at NCI in 2023, I began working as a
Senior Engineer in Wexford. My role involves both quality assurance and cloudrelated responsibilities, allowing me to grow in both areas.
What made you choose Ireland as a place to study and work?
Ireland has a strong tech ecosystem, particularly for cloud and SaaS companies, and I
was drawn by both the quality of education and the post-study work opportunities. I
also found the country to be welcoming and multicultural, which made the transition
from India much smoother. It felt like the ideal place to pursue higher education and
begin my international career
3. What was your most memorable experience from your time at NCI?
Collaborating on group projects with classmates from diverse backgrounds was a
highlight of my time at NCI. It strengthened my technical, teamwork, and
communication skills. I also valued the supportive and approachable faculty.
How did you hear about your role?
I found my current role through LinkedIn after consistently applying and tailoring each
application. I was looking for a position with diverse responsibilities and growth
potential, and this role aligned well with my goals.
What did the recruitment and selection process involve and how did you prepare
for it?
The process started with an HR screening and two technical interviews focused on my
problem-solving skills, technical foundation, and cloud and quality assurance
concepts. I prepared by reviewing core topics, researching the company, and
practicing relevant interview scenarios.
Can you describe the visa process you underwent? (Did you get Stamp 1G or Critical
Skills – has that changed since joining etc)
After completing my degree, I received the Stamp 1G visa. Following my probation
period, my employer applied for a Critical Skills Employment Permit, giving me longterm stability and a clear path to grow my career in Ireland.
What is a typical day like in your current role?
My day begins with a stand-up meeting, followed by close collaboration with
developers and the product manager to ensure product quality. I’m also involved in
cloud-related initiatives, allowing me to gradually expand into more technical and
infrastructure-focused areas.
What has been the most challenging part of your graduate journey?
Navigating the job market as a recent graduate in a competitive environment was a
key challenge. It required persistence and a strategic approach, but ultimately
strengthened my resilience and taught me how to position my skills effectively.
What are your Top 3 tips for current students and graduates who are looking to
enter the job market in Ireland.
i. Customize your CV and cover letter for each application to reflect the specific
requirements of the role. A targeted approach is far more effective than a
generic one.
ii. Leverage LinkedIn strategically, not only for job applications, but also to
engage with alumni, recruiters, and industry professionals to expand your
network.
iii. Be consistent and patient. Rejection is a natural part of the process. Focus on
learning from each step and trust that the right opportunity will come with
persistence.
