Sharath is a class of 2023 MSc Management Graduate. Originally from India Sharath worked with PwC, HSBC, and PayPal in India in AML and Financial Crime Prevention and is now working with JP Morgan in Dublin as a Compliance Officer.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background:

I’m originally from Mysuru, India, and have worked with PwC, HSBC, and PayPal in their Anti Money Laundering (AML) and Financial Crime Prevention departments. I’m currently working as a Compliance Officer at J.P. Morgan, based in Dublin.

What made you choose Ireland as a place to study and work?

Ireland appealed to me for several reasons: it's a financial and tech hub within Europe, an English speaking country with a strong international community, and above all, known for its inclusive work culture and welcoming people.

How did you hear about your role ?

I came across the opportunity on LinkedIn. I prepared thoroughly for the interviews and the insights from my peer lecturers which really helped me feel confident going into the process.

What did the recruitment process involve and how did you prepare for it ?

The process included practical assessments followed by two technical interview rounds with Executive Directors. I prepared by reviewing case studies and current financial market refining my technical knowledge

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

I find it incredibly fulfilling to contribute to protecting individuals and the financial system from financial crime. The dynamic nature of the work means there’s always something new to learn, and every day feels meaningful.

Can you describe the visa process you underwent ?

After graduating, I was on a Stamp 1G post study visa. Later, I transitioned to a Critical Skills Employment Permit (Stamp 1), which was sponsored by my employer, a smooth and structured process with the right support.

What is a typical day like in your current role ?

A typical day involves identifying and investigating financial crime across the EMEA region. I also engage with regulatory bodies such as the Central Bank of Ireland (CBI) and the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB)

What has been the most challenging part of your graduate journey ?

Navigating the job market as an international graduate came with its own set of challenges from understanding visa processes to adapting to a new professional environment. But every hurdle was a valuable learning experience.

What’s your most memorable experience at NCI?

One of my favourite aspects of NCI was the vibrant student life, especially the events and activities hosted by the college, which created a real sense of community. The support for international students was also truly memorable and much appreciated.
